Help! Book Cover Polling

April 23, 2017 By Naomi Robinson | Bakers Royale 99 Comments

You guys, I’m so excited because, look below .  .  . those are the two options for my book cover. Yes, it’s finally here, the book is so close to being done. I just need to finalize the cover. Which one do you love: left or right? Which one makes you want to turn the pages? Or maybe it’s neither. Either way I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Book Cover Options

EEEEP! I can’t believe we are finally so close to having the book hit the printers. As you know, this has been a two year labor of love. OMG – I feel like life can get back to being being semi-normal. It’s been an all-consuming passion that has taken up almost every minute of my time.

BakersRoyale cover 2

I’m so pumped to share all these recipes with you. Stay tuned, because I’ll have pre-order information coming shortly. But for now, I need  you to weigh in and tell me which one you like? I can’t decide and I need to let the book designer know. I’m not going to share my thoughts until after I get some consensus, so I really need your input to see which one resonates with you and why!

I prefer the first photo/option. As much as everyone loves chocolate cake, it’s too “basic” to make a book cover really say, “Buy me now!” – know what I mean? The cake in the first photo is more unique and definitely more eye-catching for that first impression book look/cover 🙂

  3. Suzette says

    April 23, 2017 at 8:41 pm

The naked cake. That is a new twist on a cake. The chocolate bundt cake seems too normal.

  4. carrie says

    April 23, 2017 at 8:48 pm

The one on the right… It will show much better in the small size that Amazon shows and it’s preview…
The one on the left is too light colored…Unless you are doing print-only and then it doesn’t matter

  5. Kankana says

    April 23, 2017 at 8:55 pm

I can’t wait to read your book! As for the cover, girl.. your photos are just too stunning to pick a favourite. But out the two if I absolutely have to pick one, then I will go with the right. Only because it’s chocolate and that drizzle makes me wanna grab a bite right away.

  6. Ann says

    April 23, 2017 at 9:14 pm

I’d go for the chocolate bundt, also because it will display well — be readily identifiable — in both a full size and in the thumbnail size.

  7. Foodie says

    April 23, 2017 at 11:01 pm

I would definitely go with chocolate bundt. It’s have better composition and because of contrast it would be more eye catching on shelves at bookstore 🙂

    Good luck! 🙂

Please excuse me for identifying Liz S as Lisa. This is what happens when comments can’t be previewed! 😀

  9. Amanda says

The one on the left because of the stack of plates in the background. Shows that these recipes are for sharing with and feeding the people around you! And the light pastel colors throughout are more warm to me than the big chocolate bundt. The one on the right – as someone who doesn’t own a bundt pan yet (in my early 30s) and has no plans in buying one soon because of space – the left one seems more approachable.

  10. Deb says

    April 24, 2017 at 2:44 am

The naked cake – bright, clean. I’d buy the book on looks alone. I have too many chocolate books already. “75 Twists” – yes on the blackberry Orchid cake! 🙂

I like the one on the left.

  15. lisa says

I prefer the one on top, the “naked”cake; it’a a little different than a traditional chocolate cake. Good luck!

  16. Amy Murillo says

    April 24, 2017 at 2:56 am

The colors on the cover of the cake on the left definitely draw me in more. Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment!

  17. Annette Hansen says

    April 24, 2017 at 3:17 am

I much prefer the “naked” cake. Chocolate cakes have been seen on so many covers.

  18. Mary Kay says

    April 24, 2017 at 3:47 am

Definitely the blackberry naked cake photo on the left……but I do like the circle around “75 twists” lines on 2nd photo

  19. Anna says

    April 24, 2017 at 3:47 am

I love the left option, the naked cake looks so unique and bright, as others have said, I would buy the book for the cover alone. Both photos are beautiful but Im over chocolate cake, personally. If I saw that on the cover, I probably wouldn’t pick it up.

  20. Lana says

    April 24, 2017 at 3:54 am

The one on the left. It’s absolutely gorgeous. ❤

  21. Fran E. says

    April 24, 2017 at 3:54 am

I agree with the majority in giving my vote to the first cover photo. Color and creativity, along with presentation, would make me want to explore inner pages. While I love chocolate bundt cakes, it would be better received from within.

  22. aafke says

    April 24, 2017 at 4:01 am

the naked cake looks more modern and summery, number two is beautiful and would be perfect for a winter or christmas edition. Lots of succes to you !

    April 24, 2017 at 4:01 am

I prefer the cover on the right

  24. Marisa says

    April 24, 2017 at 4:02 am

I would definitely go with the naked cake, especially if the release date is fairly soon . The chocolate cake seems more appropriate for a FALL release date. Having said that….they are both gorgeous and congratulations!

Ooh the one on the left! It looks delicious!

  28. Michael-Ann says

    April 24, 2017 at 4:20 am

While both look devine, I vote for the naked cake (left side). It’s new and fresh, shows that your book will have something the baker/reader might not already have made in some form.

    Th Naked Cake?

  30. Amanda says

    April 24, 2017 at 4:24 am

I think it depends on your target audience. If you’re marketing to people who make fancy cakes and aren’t intimidated by it, go with the first picture. If you want it to be for “everyone”, go with the second. I have to say, I like the chocolate one because it’s in a twist pattern and it’s a fun play on the words on the cover. Also, as a baking novice I have to admit that the first picture would put me off buying the book. Fair or not, it conveys to me that the cakes would be hard to make. The second one looks beautiful but easy, and so would encourage me to pick it up. I also find the first picture a little busy and distracting – the second one looks neat and clean.

  31. Heidi says

    April 24, 2017 at 4:36 am

I love the first picture!! Beautiful!! Can’t wait for the book!

  32. Benedicte Smith-Hald says

    April 24, 2017 at 4:38 am

I prefer the chocolate cake as I find it esthetically more pleasing 🙂 And besides ….who doesn’t love chocolate and let themselves be tempted!?Good luck

  33. Allison says

The left is more visually interesting

  37. Francisca says

    April 24, 2017 at 5:40 am

Hi, I really love the cover that has the bundt! That is the one cover that would lead me to buy the book, to want to see the next page!
But anyway good luck! =) And great work!

  38. Bhavini Ruparell says

    April 24, 2017 at 5:47 am

    Left definitely!
It’s light, bright and visually more exciting.

  39. Joan says

    April 24, 2017 at 5:54 am

I prefer the right visually, the contrast is stronger to my eye. The colors of the left are a bit pale in comparison. (but both are beautiful and many congrats on launching your book!)

  40. Tori//Gringalicious.com says

    April 24, 2017 at 5:56 am

Omg, omg, omg!!!!!! I’m so excited about your cookbook and I love both covers. I’d almost always go for berries as my answer but, really, chocolate trumps. The left one I think!

  41. Nancy says

    April 24, 2017 at 6:07 am

While both cakes look very delicious…the first on the left draws me in with the fresh take on a cake and the color accents within the cake

  42. Ev Thomas says

    April 24, 2017 at 6:08 am

Definitely the LEFT one. The image is so different, interesting and creative and the colors are too beautiful. A definite WOW I HAVE TO HAVE THAT BOOK cover. So exciting for you.

  45. Tristen says

    April 24, 2017 at 6:42 am

I’d be more inclined, personally, to purchase the book with the LEFT cover. It’s gorgeous and different and definitely draws me more to the cover than the photo of the bundt cake.

  46. Laurie says

    April 24, 2017 at 6:48 am

The cover on the left jumps off the shelf for me. It makes me think there are new ideas in it. (you won’t go wrong with either I am sure)

  47. Teresa says

    April 24, 2017 at 6:48 am

I like the one on the left. Congratulations on your book!!!

  48. Angie says

    April 24, 2017 at 6:53 am

I love them both …but the left is by far the better pick! Best of luck…..congratulations !! Angie

  49. Angela says

Definitely the chocolate bundt, the colour scheme is brilliant.

  50. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:14 am

I seriously love both but the drizzle on the chocolate cake on the right is calling my name!

  51. M says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:24 am

They are both beautiful but I would say the naked cake would attract my eye more. Congratulations! Can’t wait to pick up a copy 🙂

  52. Lee says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:25 am

I like the first one. It has a little bop of colour which attracts the eye better than the all brown look of the second one, if I had to choose.

  53. Velvet Scoter says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:26 am

The bundt! I love bundts. That and the sauce would immediately draw me in.

I like the naked cake . . !!! for a cookbook cover. . and can’t wait to get your cook, Congrats!

  55. Mallerie Hendrix says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:35 am

Naked cake!! I first found your site via some pics of your chocolate mocha cupcakes. Your site seems so elegant and I love the name!! The naked cake looks more delicte and fancier than the bundt.

  56. Chris @ Shared Appetite says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:38 am

The left one… but I like the”75 recipes” subtitle design of the right.

  57. Asha Shivakumar says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:44 am

Both are stunning and I love them both for different reasons. The font and style for the 75 recipes to the right on the bundt cover is gorgeous. I love the background for the naked cake. I absolutely adore the right, the bundt cake, some drama to it. It’s your style. Whatever you chose, it will be wonderful. Can’t wait to get your book.

  58. Carole Arra Weinberg says

    April 24, 2017 at 7:45 am

The Naked Cake – very eye catching. There are too many cookbooks with chocolate cakes on the cover – your Nake Cake is delicate and different – it makes me want to bake and isn’t that what you want?

  59. May says

    April 24, 2017 at 8:00 am

The bundt is better. The gloss of the sauce brings your eye in and draws it down the page. I also like the design around the “75 twists…” (so if you end up going with the other cover page I would suggest adding this in to that one). The thing about the bundt that I don’t like is the placement of your name – the name placement on the blackberry cake cover is better.

  60. Nancy Clark says

    April 24, 2017 at 8:12 am

I would like seeing the bundt with the sauce. Yum!

  61. Heather Christo says

    April 24, 2017 at 8:26 am

B is more striking to me with the richness of the colors- but they are both gorgeous!

  62. Luli says

    April 24, 2017 at 8:59 am

Oh, how exciting!!! I love the bundt cover, there are too many covers with cakes and the bundt looks so luscious. I like the design of the fonts on this one better too

  63. Jeff says

    April 24, 2017 at 9:11 am

Definitely the left. It is such a beautiful book cover!

  64. Mary Ann | The Beach House Kitchen says

    April 24, 2017 at 9:14 am

Oh my, they’re both GORGEOUS Naomi! I can’t wait for the book to come out so I can add it to my collection. Congrats on all your hard work! The naked cake is beautiful, but I think the chocolate cake pops. I love the rich chocolate color of the cake.

  65. patricia crocker says

    April 24, 2017 at 9:24 am

The bundt cake has my vote. Chocolate glistening on the cake caught my eye. Also I like the font for the 75 ways and I like it on the right better.

  66. karen says

    April 24, 2017 at 9:32 am

I love the one with the blackberries and orchid. It makes me want to dive and see the rest!

  67. Effie says

    April 24, 2017 at 9:37 am

I like them both, but if it were me, I’d go with the first one…the naked cake…I like the pastels on that one! 😉 Good luck with whichever one you choose & the book as a whole!

  68. Marla Meridith says

    April 24, 2017 at 9:46 am

Love love! I think the pink is gorgeous but the chocolate will pop off the shelf more. Better contrast.

  69. Barbara Acee says

    April 24, 2017 at 10:08 am

The bundt cake. Hands down. Photo and font. Perfect!

  70. Lynn Heron says

    April 24, 2017 at 10:19 am

The one on the right looks like chocolate which is always an easy sell. It also looks easier to bake so I would think the recipes inside would be more doable. I also like the 75 Twists on the right one too. If you could put some color on the right one it would be perfect. Like other commenters I like the colors on the left.

  71. Jennifer Farley says

    April 24, 2017 at 11:19 am

They are both so beautiful. You know what I think. Chocolate. I can’t wait to see it.

  72. Julie Durand says

    April 24, 2017 at 11:26 am

While I want to make the bundt cake, my eye immediately went to the first book cover. The color feels fresh and inviting. It follows the trend of moving away from all neutral to adding at least a bit of color. Also, the circle/font around the “75 Twists…” is great. Have you tried it on the other cover?

  73. Constance says

    April 24, 2017 at 11:39 am

I love the bundt cover but I agree that your name placement needs to be fixed in it. Love the font style on the 75 sweets blurb and if you go with the naked cake, you might consider using the 75 sweets font from the bundt cover.

    Wishing you continued success.

  78. Genia says

I like the first one best! The orchid and gilded blackberries are easy elegance and in my opinion, are very you. The other cake looks delicious, just not the cover cake.

  79. Cecret says

    April 24, 2017 at 3:21 pm

I LOVE the naked cake…the colors you’ve chosen are so appealing. The cake itself is interesting and different-I would describe it as shabby-chic. I love chocolate cake and that one looks delicious, but looking at both covers, I already want to make the cake on the first cover. It is very pleasing 🙂

  80. Yani says

The chocolate bundt cake for sure! I love bundt cakes so the bundt cake would catch my eye alot faster! Then you have all that yummy chocolate sauce dripping down a chocolate Kugelhopf bundt cake! Plus having some chocolate every day is actually good for you! Win! Win!

  87. Christina says

    April 25, 2017 at 5:14 am

The chocolate bundt all the way. The contrast is so visually appealing and it looks luxe and dramatic which fits the name “bakers royale” more.

  88. Paula | Vintage Kitchen says

Bundt cake for sure; much more approachable for the home baker!

  89. Delphi says

  90. Kim says

    April 25, 2017 at 9:53 am

I like the second one! The color palette on the naked cake is appealing, but the bundt cake speaks more to baked goods and good – the first says “home decor”

  92. Sharon says

While I love, love chocolate, for the cover I much prefer the one on the left. Like the burst of berry color in the cake and also the font of the 75…..is easier to read,

  93. Julie | Table for Two says

    April 26, 2017 at 4:25 am

    Best wishes and good luck!

  95. Elaine Kulp says

    April 26, 2017 at 6:09 pm

I like the cover on the left better. It shows height with cake elevated on the cake stand. It shows texture with the icing on the cake. It’s more aesthetically pleasing in an artistic way to the eye to me.

  96. Lindsay | With Salt and Pepper says

    April 27, 2017 at 3:56 am

I’m torn now after reading some of the comments! I was going to say I love the left with the ’75 recipes’ font from the right, but now I’m on board with the right bundt looking more approachable for the home baker. So I guess it depends on who you are targeting most…those who want to be inspired and are confident in their baking skills…or those who want recipes that look like something they can make themselves without too much skill. 😀 Good luck!

  97. Kelsey says

    April 27, 2017 at 9:58 am

I prefer the “75 twists” font in the bundt cake photo. But I think the Naked Cake photo is a more interesting cover. When I see the bundt cake cover, I think “do I really need another bundt cake recipe? How is it different from the others I have already?”, but the other cover makes me more curious about what is inside the book. Just my two cents; both covers are beautiful!

  98. Alice says

    May 1, 2017 at 4:53 pm

I love the naked cake cover. The colors are beautiful and inviting, and it just looks fun. I LOVE chocolate and the bundt cake is drool-worthy, but it doesn’t stand out or look unique. I know some people think the bundt cake is more approachable, but there’s little challenge. I can buy a boxed cake, bake it in a bundt pan, drizzle store-bought caramel sauce it, and viola. On the other hand, the naked cake is different, but not so over-the-top that I’d be afraid to attempt it. However, I like the font and the look of the “75 Tasty…” subtitle from the chocolate cover.
